Update - Wed 4th July
Hi
all~
Sam
was away this week so you have another report from me (although I don't
envy Sam as her -10deg she had in Dunedin definitely beats our balmy by
comparison weather on Sat!) Mind you she wasn't playing netball in that
-10deg!
And as for that, it definitely felt like winter on Saturday with those
freezing temperatures! It doesn't do much to help with catching the ball
when your hands are completely frozen and you can't feel a thing - so
its even more impressive when you see a score like 84! Well done East
Red. In weather like this its even more important to make sure you warm
up AND warm down correctly. It was good seeing teams warm up but I think
I only saw three teams warming down, I know it's not nice hanging around
in winter weather but remember to warm down after your game to reduce
a chance of injury and to treat your muscles correctly. Hopefully your
coach has a routine for the team, however if you aren't sure how to just
ask your coach - that's what they are there for!
I'm also guessing the weather also didn't do much to enthuse people to
come the the club Bingo night on Saturday. Disappointingly we had 19,
yes 19 people attend our club night of which only 5 (five) were club members.
Well done to the girls from East 4, 10, 12 & 13 - it was duly noted
who made the effort. Thanks to the committee members who organised and
ran the club night this week, I know there was some date changes that
caused some confusion however Blend have advised this has been sorted
out from now on. The club put these nights on for our members so its somewhat
heartbreaking when only 5 of our club members attend. I would hate to
see our sponsorship jeopardised by lack of numbers on organised club nights.
Details of the next club night will come out shortly so hope to see more
of you there!
Now putting the coaching co-ordinator hat on, I've noticed over the last
few weeks that there is a distinct lack of numbers at the courts for training
on a Wednesday. Just a reminder that as a club member for Wellington East
you have made a commitment to the team, both financially and time wise.
This means attending training on a Wednesday - unless of course your coach
(and only your coach) has cancelled it due to terrible weather. It is
not fair to your team mates to not attend training as they too have committed
to the team. At the beginning of the year it is made crystal clear that
you are expected to attend training with your team mates on a Wednesday.
Saying you live out of Wellington and its too far to come in to practice
is not good enough. I know girls that come in from J'ville, Porirua, Lower
and Upper Hutt after work to attend training. If they can do it, so can
you. (Self entered teams can choose to train or not).
Ok - so enough of the negative stuff - here's to another week and another
exciting game of netball! So exciting in fact that I've heard East 7 love
netball so much that they've entered their outdoor team into the winter
season of indoor netball - how's that for love of the game.
Well done to all winning teams in the weekend, there were some close ones,
and I'm sure we'll see you all at training on Wed ;)
~Tania
Assistant Club Captain.

Reminder - Reserve Day
We are now over half way through the season and with this wild weather
it's highly likely that we may need to use the reserve day at the end
of the year. This date is 8th September. Please assume you will be playing
this day and don't schedule spring skiing holidays as you may be playing
your last game of netball. All going well the last game of the season
is Saturday 1st September but you may be playing on the 8th. Keep this
day free!
WENC Club Raffle
We are gearing up for our annual Club raffle! Proceeds go towards our
end of year function so it is definitely in your best interests to get
selling! Details coming out in the next few weeks. We are currently looking
for donations for the prizes so if you can help, or know of anyone that
can help get back to us. Last year we had some great prizes!
* Team reports below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EAST RED
vs J'ville 1
W 84 - 6
East Red regrouped from our loss against PIC Black to storm home by 78
goals against Johnsonville. The team played extremely well, we brought
the ball down the court effectively, were tight on defence throughout
the court and had our best shooting display all season with both
shooters recording stats in the mid 80's.
MVP - Sarah Nowell a strong game at GA!
EAST
BLUE
vs PIC GRN
L 37 - 73
East Blue lost to PIC Green 72:37. This was a positive and determined
effort from the Blues with 2 close quarters where we made PIC work hard
for every goal. Q2 & Q3 saw us make too many mistakes which handed
PIC the large winning margin. However, I was really impressed with an
early 5:1 lead in Q4 which shows we have a good level of physical and
mental toughness through 60 minutes.
MVP - Claire Harris - inspired effort and consistent play coming off a
very tough week where her baby had been in hospital for 4 days with pneumonia.
EAST
3
vs Just Paterson SMOG 3
L 19 - 30
Hmmm, After SMOG got out to a 9-2 lead East never got back into the game
and were always playing catchup. Having said that we did catchup in the
3 rd quarter but the damage had been done and the lead was too much to
claw back. A game to learn from and move on!
MVP - Joleen Bastille for some great tips and intercepts despite the speed
of the ball coming through to the defensive circle
EAST
4
vs PIC 4
W 35 - 15
What a game - we were on fire! The whole team played really well - loads
of intercepts and great shooting. Lara was smoking in the mid-court with
lots of tips and great defence. Iri in WA found her speed and form - great
feeding and driving to the circle edge. Lolah shot some fantastic goals,
and Shelley in GA was steady thoughout. Even when it bucketed down, the
team kept possession and remained strong. Great to have Liz on the team
- did a great job at both ends of the court! Thanks 2 our ring-ins as
well - you did a fab job. PIC didn't even get a look in - yeah!!!
MVP: Lolah Finai (way to go girl!!!)
EAST
5
vs Newlands Coll 1
W 24 - 23
This weeks games was again somewhat hindered by the rain, but despite
this East 5 managed a hard fought win. Down by 2 or 3 for the majority
of the game we put together a more controlled 4th quarter than Newlands
College did and came away 1 up. The attackers really put it together for
us this week, accurate shooting and strong driving were both key to our
win.
MVP: MVPs this week were definitely Kate and Adrianne
EAST 6
vs Just Paterson SMOG 7
W 27 - 23
After being down each quarter by about 3, we mananged to get it together,
get a few good turnovers and win by 4. Not warming up it takes us to about
the second half to get it together! It was great to come from behind and
play the netball we are capable of.
MVP: Circle D combo of Lucy Evans and Blaire Pedlar
EAST 7
vs Just Paterson SMOG 6
L 10 - 31
After
a good first three quarters where where we were keeping within 5 goals
for a bonus point with the top ranked team of the grade, a heartbreaking
last quarter saw a blow out. Some good play with hands over the ball,
however weather causing basic netball skills to disappear with a lot of
possession thrown away or lost. Some very interesting umpiring calls made
it hard to keep the game going for both teams...
MVP:
no MVP but strong solid game play from both MJ and Nikki in defence.
EAST
8
vs Wn Girls Coll 3
W 35 - 12
Although
rainy, and this time cold on Saturday, our team this week managed to come
out firing straight away to take a good 13-1 lead after the first quarter.
We did slow down our pace in the next two quarters though still kept on
increasing our lead.Elaine had great shooting accuracy and Lueni took
some awesome intercepts playing in defence. We started to really pull
ahead in the last quarter until a nasty injury to an opposition member
shortened our game, but we still won with a convincing 35-12 win
MVP- Lueni and Elaine.
EAST
9
vs Poneke 1
W 28 - 26
We had a very physical game against Poneke on the weekend. The aggressiveness
of their game really rattled our team during the first half and we were
4 down at half time. We had a good talking to from team mum Robbie and
went out to fight back managing to win by in the end 2 to keep our top
spot.
MVP: Jaimie Herbison for keeping her cool in the shooting circle and getting
our points on the board.
EAST 10
vs Kia Ora 3
L 24 - 31
EAST 11
vs St Francis 4
W 37 - 22
East dominated the game, St Frances would go on a 4 goal run at times
but we would pull it back and go on an 8 or 9 goal run. Our attacking
game was awesome and we wouldn't have got as much ball if it wasn't for
our Defense! Although the weather was poor (bring back summer) the girls
played really really well and deserved a decent win!
MVP: Amanda Ingham - Mandy had an outstanding passing game, the GK and
GD couldn't stop her passed into our shooters!
EAST 12
vs McLaren's Daughters
L 22 - 33
EAST 13
vs East 15
L 18 - 31
Played East 15 and lost. It has been a bit of an up and down season so
far but we will come back fighting in our next game and aim for a win
to get us back on a roll!
EAST 14
vs SCOG 4
W 21 - 20
EAST 15
vs East 13
W 31 - 18
East 15 played another great game this weekend and deserved their great
win. East 15 played East 13 and won 31-18. Once everyone adjusted to having
both teams in the same colours, East 15 took an early lead from the first
quarter. Well done to the feeders, who really worked well providing the
ball to our shooters. Our shooters were on form today, planting their
feet well and working the circle. The defenders had some excellent intercepts
with helped our game. With the ice cold weather, we did throw some silly
passes through our mid court which we need to work on for futurer games
as they were potential goals. I am very proud of the girls who have won
their last 5 games and gone up a grade......and yes girls we will organize
the coach's shout very soon when we have all our player back from holidays
.
Update - Wed 4th July
Hi
all~
Captain's report
The trouble with having a serious injury when you are competitive is staying
in denial for a long time. I have had first hand experience of this, not
through my own injury but because I live with an ex semi professional
soccer player who keeps trying to play. He has had his knee operated on
3x and still persists on 'having a kick around'. Everytime the knee blows
up, he comes home saying 'babe the mind is still in it but the knee
'
and remains grumpy (threw pain) all afternoon. I vowed I would never be
like that; then I did my own knee. I can no longer say the 'get hard and
get on with it' attitude belongs solely with the male race. For 6 weeks
now I have been working very hard at the physio. I do all the exercises,
have stayed off it until told otherwise (I usually never do what I'm told)
and still IT'S NOT WORKING! Arrgghh. So I'm the grumpy one who, for this
season at least, has to hang up my netball shoes and go to the gym for
rehab.
To
East 4 my netball team. Good luck for the rest of the season. I
know you can get yourselves up in the top 4 and have fun doing it. Welcome
to the team Nat; after watching you on Saturday I can already see you'll
be a great asset to the team and fit in perfectly.
There
are of course positives to having this injury. I always find the positives
in everything. My husband has me home more and I'm not out in the cold
as many times a week. BUT the most exciting positive is I can coach!!
Due to Tania and Hayley finding out they have unexpected commitments,
East 7 were without a coach. Which is where I come in.
To
the East 7 girls thanks for the lovely welcome emails. I wonder
if you'll be thanking me after our fitness focused training on Wednesday
night J I'm looking forward to taking over where T left off.
Now
onto Saturday, another cold and wet one! It was a weekend of big highs
and low lows for East. There was some heart break for the East red team
who went down to PIC 27 42. This was a big upset and one I'm sure
the top team will learn from. You guys will come back at them stronger
in the final!!!
East
4 had a nail biting game with goals not sinking, passes going astray and
being dropped in the wet. But they worked really hard to maintain a 1
goal win against SMOG which elated those on the East sideline. East 3
on the other hand just couldn't quite hold on and lost by one in an equally
tough game.
The
biggest wins (which I had the pleasure of witnessing) go out to our senior
teams; East 11, 12, 13 & 15. With special mention to the East 12 team
who were our highest scorers. They won 43 20. Awesome stuff girls
it was certainly your day for the club.
Train
hard at the courts this week. For those that train on a Wednesday night,
I'll be seeing you there. Have a good week.
Cheers,
Sam
EAST RED
vs PIC BLK
L 27 - 42
Unfortunately our winning streak came to an end on Saturday after meeting
second placed PIC Black. We were unable to settle quickly into the game
and were playing catch up throughout. PIC Black was the more composed
team and capitalised on our unforced errors, to come away with a convincing
15 goal win. We are still placed at the top of the table with a 1 point
lead over PIC Black.
Good luck to Rosie, Julia, Ni'ia (Wellington U21), Stacey and Lisa
Asst Coach (Wellington U19) who will be competing in the New Zealand Age
Group Championships in Hamilton this week.
W 19 -18
We
started off strong against PIC with East up 7-2 at the end of the 1st
quarter, followed by an even 2nd quarter but unfortunately let them back
into the game in the second half to lose by 1 goal. Leanne and Jojo combined
well in the defence end to create some good turn overs in the circle.
The wet conditions made it difficult to handle the ball and to finish
off on our shots. A disappointing loss for the team
MVP - the defence girls
EAST
W 17-16
We
won 17-16 - a very close game but hard faught. We had a very strong defensive
game - with our new GK Natalie slotting into the team really well - and
on fire with tips and intercepts! Our defence worked hard, and won a lot
of ball for us. Our shooting end was a bit shakey, but scored the crucial
goal in the closing minutes of the game to enable the win! Our best shot
of the day was from our Centre Lara (playing there for the first time
- did so well) who shot a goal from outside the circle - nothing but net!!!
big improvement from the week before, even in those bad conditions.
It took us the first quarter to warm again, but hey, away we went once
the old bones had loosened up a bit. The defense once again played a brilliant
game, only allowing Pelorus 17 goals. A big thank you to Jamie for filling
the game. The attack players lead into space using a variety of skilful
movement patterns. No problems feeding the ball through to the shooters.
Plenty
of tips were happening throughout the game, some we gained which was a
bonus for us. Centre passes were spot on. Shooting played a big part in
the game.
MVP - Kelly Howe .Moves quickly to receive the centre pass. Combines well
with WA and C to bring the ball into the goal circle. Short, sharp movements
inside the goal circle. Awesome shooting techniques and scores goals majority
of the time. Another great game Kels. Well done!!
EAST 15
vs Kia Ora 8
W 32 - 15
Another
excellent win for the team this week! Although slow to get started they
soon took charge and dominated the game to the end. The entire team worked
hard on defense making a big impact on slowing the opposition down when
they put their arms up and played man on. Diana had many intercepts and
tips. Corina shot at least 90%. Emma, Lisli, Claire and Nicky all worked
hard on bringing the ball down the court under some 'interesting' umpiring.
Good stuff team. Work hard on driving onto the ball girls and playing
that lovely controlled game we talked about you'll clean up everytime.
You were a pleasure to coach. Louise, how's the wisdom tooth? Cheers Sam
Update Tues 26th June
Hi
all,
Anyone
else turn up 9.30am Saturday morning to support East Blue only to find
out they had been defaulted to?? Yup the committee and I too what
a shame blues you had so much support! Sorry for anyone who was unaware
of the last minute decision, Johnsonville only had 5 people (in Prem 1??)
and the association decided that was unacceptable so cancelled the game.
I'd like to say a HUGE thank you to all the Blues players who turned up
to the courts to umpire regardless of not playing!! Em's in particular
who came back from Palmie just to umpire you're a star. We really
appreciated it and it was noted by the association. Chocolate fish all
round East 2.
Congratulations
East 3 your win has put you at the top of the Prem 2 grade. That Moana
must be kicking some serious butt huh?? Or is it just pure talent J Either
way I watched the game and thought you all did well especially
the defence circle. Leanne what retirement??
East
8 and East 9 are still up there winning their grades too. East 6 also
gets a special mention; you are only 1 point behind the winners in the
Prem reserve 2 grade good stuff!
There
has also been some re-grading in the seniors and I'm excited to let the
club know that the following teams have moved up a grade.
East
10 from 1b to 1a
East
14 from 2b to 2a
Both
teams are coached by Rangi what a coach! Well done Rangi and team.
I was able to watch your game East 10 and I was really impressed with
the netball I saw. There was some great straight line play, passing and
circle movement Kelly you had an outstanding game as GA.
I
had an email from Dale Wortman East's President this morning who
is really impressed by our club this year. She had the following to say:
I
have been at the courts again recently and certainly am following what
is happening to all teams - great again to get such wonderful results
from our teams. East Red are looking good so here's hoping this year is
East's year!!! East second team is also responding to the challenge, so
wonderful if we can stay in the top 6. Marvelous to now have our Shakers
back! Keep up with the improvements that have been shown. Great for all
our coaches to be getting such good results isn't it.
Dale.
See
you all on Saturday. Stay warm and don't forget to keep up your fitness
it's more of a challenge in this weather!
Cheers,
Sam
Another Saturday gone... another great win for East 3. Our winning roll
has finally taken us to the top of our grade!! Another strong performance
from East 3 with some great defence work from our trio defence players
of Jo Basile, Leanne Harris and Naomi Hamilton (by the way, Leanne needs
to come out of retirement!!). Not to mention our shooters getting knocked
about here and there from their (aggressive and undisciplined) opposition
defence players and yet both Maria Mitineti and Lisa Paraku still managed
to put some great shots in! Great speed too coming from our mid-courters
Jess Jamieson and Bex Meinders. Would also like to thank Kate Rogers for
"coming to the rescue" when poor Jess had to come off due to
an injury.
Not
exactly our greatest performance of the year. Not quite sure what went
Saturday's game began with a hiss and a roar and we gave Pelorus a run
for their money by finishing the first quarter only 2 goals behind. We
had numerous turnovers which we unfortunately failed to capitalise on
but the potential was there for some great netball. The team waivered
towards the end of the game but each week we are building up our core
strengths - looking forward to the Saturday when we come out on top! Many
thanks to Fobbie for filling in for us!
"Yes
we won", there will be no comment about the number of ball thrown
out the court, or the number of passes that completely missed their mark,
or the number of goals that didn't go in. Excuse number 1. Injuries currently
being nursed. Excuse number 2. it was cold and windy. Excuse number 3.
We are sorely missing our injured Julia. Excuse number 4
Our win this week has kept us in first place and after the reshuffle are
still in Senior 1A fighting hard for the Prem spot for the club. We were
pretty even the first 3 quarters but pulled it together with a 6 point
win in the end. Awesome D, made it hard for Karori to get the ball into
their shooting cricle and no chance of letting them get rebounds. All
in all a huge improvement over the past couple of weeks, training goes
a long way - thanks coach!
Another great battle against Kia ora 4 and we won this time. The attack
team done really well receiving the centre passes and Jo (in defense)
assisting in one or two as well. We won each quarter with turnovers by
way of intercepts, tips, one on one defense. Shooting played a big part
in this game as well. We have moved up from Senior 1B to Senior 1A for
the 2nd round.
MVP
Captains report
Hi everyone,
ICEY comes to mind when I think of saturday just gone. I had my coaches
shoes on and, I'm sure every coach and supporter will back me here, it
was very WET! However even though it was tough out there I'm very proud
to let you know we virtually cleaned up. East must be made of tough stuff
because out of the 14 teams we had playing 10 teams came away with a win
or a draw. The games I watched were played with the skill and control
needed to win in the wet. Well done everyone. It's just a shame my camera
isn't water proof, there would have been some priceless shots taken.
When I woke up Saturday morning I seriously wanted to roll over and go
back to sleep. Especially as Saturday is my day off from all things housework,
children and rising early. I asked myself 'why at 33 am I still doing
this'??? And I even called Raewyn to see if the weather was bad enough
to take a rain check and play later in the season. But once I got over
my its-to-cold-to-function moment and downed my first coffee at the courts
it became really clear why I'm still doing it. It's because of the passion
you all have for the game. All you dedicated coaches and managers out
in the rain, all the reserves players that still turned up to play and
every member training and playing for this club. I have loved this game
since watching my Mum play back in the 70's (yes that is before some of
you were born). It's such a fast moving skillful game and from where I
stood on Saturday East does it proud.
So thanks to you all for your dedication to your teams. Oh and take a
leaf out of East 2's book - next time it's wet and cold bring hot water
bottles to warm up your hands.
See ya during the week
Sam
Saturdays results
East Red
W 52 - 17
East Red played our East Blue team this weekend and came away with a good
52-17 win. The weather conditions in the first half didn't make for pretty
netball, but we managed to graft together to take a good lead into half
time. With all of 12 our squad members available today, we were able to
give everyone a run for at least a half game. This result confirms our
position at the top of the table in premier one. We will be playing our
competition game against JP SMOG 1 at Wellington Girls College Gym on
Wednesday at 7.00pm, so would appreciate your support at the game!
MVP Stacey McFeeters
East Blue
L 17 - 52
East Blue lost to East Red 52:17. The Blues played with patience and discipline
for Q1 & Q2 to be within 5 goals of the Reds for each quarter. However
the Red's constant pressure, fewer errors and ability to force turnover
and convert to points saw the scoreline extend in Q3 & Q4.
MVP - Candyce Dvorsky - for flexibility in taking the court out of position
as WD and for her ability to find the space to provide good options to
the passer and safe hands bringing the ball down court.
East 3
W 34 - 15
East 3 picked the worst day weatherwise to put on one of their best displays
of netball so far for the season. After beating Karori by 4 goals in the
first round East really showed them how to play this week and put
in a total team effort to win easily. Maria Mitineti and Leonie Coutts
both had an impressive ga me in the shooting circle, with so me great
move me nt and finishing off with accurate shooting.
MVP:
The whole team was a total team ga me !
East 4
W
22 - 13
East 4 played the best team game of the season so far. Their passing through
the court was brilliant and they controlled the game from the start. All
3 shooters had good stat's and moved well. The whole team stepped up on
defence and Vic Uni just couldn't break through. Fantastic game of netball
girls!
MVP - Lara Jackson.
Well ladies Karori came back determined but we didn't let it faze us hah!!
During our normal warm up quarter we took a little while to settle - I
know ladies I hear ya, the ball was wet, some of us were trying to thaw
out from earlier games and the arthritic bones were not happy about the
conditions. But then wham in came the new addition to the mighty team
Lueni Taufa who filled in for us with her awesome defence and attacking
skills rescuing the team from being one down when I came off to nurse
a twisted ankle. Go girls we managed to keep Karori down at only 17 points
again this game.
MVP to all the team!!
L 23 - 25
While the weather was absolutely atrocious the skills on court were outstanding.
The team worked well together to keep the play controlled, using space,
driving and helping each other out not to mention some fantastic intercepts
and reading the oppositions plays. Everyone out there deserves to be MVP
this week!
East 13
East 14
L 17 - 32
East 15
W 48 - 6
Well.......My girls absolutely kicked butt (to put it politely) against
SCOG 6 in the weekend. East 15 won 48 - 6......by the end of the 2nd quarter
we were 20 points ahead with the opposition just starting to get on the
board. Since there was not much of a challenge sadly from the opposition,
I got the girls to focus on using their space and working on different
combinations in a real life enviroment......and not rushing with the ball!!!!!
Well Done girls, if you win the next game ( which is 3 in a row) it will
be coaches shout and I will buy the team a couple of bottles of wine to
celebrate. Keep up the good work!!!!!
Update - 12th June 2007 - Update
Hi
all~
What
a difference between Saturday and Sunday's weather! Wasn't Saturday a
cracker day to play winter netball - long live these gorgeous Saturdays...
(hopefully I haven't just jinxed the Saturday weather!).
Sam
was away this weekend indulging in a true Italian style family reunion
with lots of great food, great company and of course great wine - so this
week I get the pleasure of presenting the Club Captains report.
Firstly
I'd like to thank everyone for making the effort to get club fee's paid
in on time. Although there were a few frantic people running down to the
ATM machines to get cash out, I'm glad to say that everyone that was there
on Saturday was able to take the court. It's never nice having to tell
people they can't play until they pay, but this year we didn't have to
do that. Remember for next season that you can pay in installments - the
sooner you start paying fee's, the sooner you can pay them off. Don't
leave it to the last minute and then you might have some of your pay left
for the week!
But
enough of that horrible financial stuff - what I do want to mention today
is something I saw during the weekend.
I
was wandering around most of the day popping in and out of games, generally
just enjoying the gorgeous winter day and watching some good netball.
But what impressed me most was the amount of East girls doing exactly
the same. You just cannot underestimate what support from your club members
on the sideline can do to a teams performance on the court. We
are not a club of 16 netball teams full of girls; We are a club of 170
members who play netball in 16 different teams.
I saw numerous supporters for the Prem 1 games, saw Prem 1 players watching
a Prem Reserve game, Prem reserve players watching senior games, Senior
players watching other games, coaches catching up with other coaches.....
the list goes on....
Ok
- I know it was a great day to be out but I did leave with warm fuzzies
about the club. This year one of our mission's is to continue and nurture
our emerging club culture - after Saturday I think we're definitely moving
in the right direction. But remember the club is what you as a member
make it - get out there - enjoy the day, watch some great netball and
spend time with your club mates! Another club night is coming up this
weekend so here is another good opportunity to get out and about....
Big
mention goes to our top three premier teams who came away with good wins
this weekend. You are the elite players of the club and not only represent
role models for fellow club members, but you all do the club proud with
every team success. Well done. Notable mentions also go to East Red, East
8, East 9, East 10 and East 14 for their strong performances so far this
season to retain top of the table positions in their respective grades.
It's not often we have nearly a third of the club top of the table. Also
a big welcome back to another new mum ex-Shaker Jo Haanstra who was back
on court with East Red in the weekend after only 10 weeks of becoming
a mum - if that's not inspiring - I'm not sure what is!
Anyway
- well done to all teams - there were some good wins and tough losses
over the weekend - and then there's next week! Sam is back on board this
week - I'm not so sure she'll let me write the report after this one ;)
Oh
and gosh darn it - don't we look good out there in our Red and Blue East
uniforms. You know what - you'll probably look even better in a club T-shirt
- on sale this week from Kelly Newbold - only $25 ;)
EAST
RED
vs SMOG 1
W 44-42
It was the final game of the first round and we have managed to retain
our position at the top of the table, continuing our unbeaten run in Premier
1. Our game against Just Paterson SMOG 1 was an extremely defensive game,
with both defence ends managing to slow and turnover a good amount of
possession the final score 44-42. We welcomed back Jo Haanstra
(joining us after having her baby girl 10 weeks ago) and Cushla Lichtwark
(from Shakers commitments) and we will be back to full strength with the
return of Jamilah Gupwell and our three U21 reps for our next game against
East Blue.
MVP - Helen Markham
EAST
BLUE
vs Jville 1
W 57 - 47
This was a must win game for us to achieve our first round goal of 6th
place on the table. We had a tentative start with many unforced errors
against a fired-up J'ville. Q2 and Q3 were solid as we took control of
the game and gained a good lead which we held through the final quarter.
MVP - has to go to the whole team for achieving our first round goal of
6th place - a significant achievement as over the past 4 years, I understand,
that East 2 teams have not won a single game at Prem 1 level. At this
level it's all about mental toughness as our highly competitive players
have to bounce back from large losses to win the games that count, so
the club's support means alot to us and is much appreciated. Acknowledging
Kirsten and Shelley for their great leadership for this round
EAST
3
vs St Marys Coll SnrA
W 37 - 20
Last game of the 1st round and finishing off on a high. Again, another
strong performance from East 3 beating St Mary's College 37-20. Great
teamwork throughout each quarter and complimenting their play by some
great shots going in!! Looking forward to Round 2...
MVP - Bex Meinders
EAST 4
vs St Caths Coll 1
L 22 - 30
East 4 went down by 8 goals in a disappointing loss to St Cath's College
. Despite the fact that we put together several really good phases of
play, we didn't really capitalise on the mistakes of the other team and
that cost us! Nevermind, we'll get them next time!
MVP: Hayley Campbell
EAST 5
vs J'ville 2
L 27 - 23
EAST 6
vs SCOG 3
W 43 - 20
A good win this week, although we didn't play nearly as well as we could
have. Great shooting and good defence throughout the court, we just need
to watch our passing for some of the tougher games coming up.
MVP:
Dee Leggat
EAST
7
vs Pelorous
L 23 - 37
Tough loss to Pelorous! We played hard throughout the whole game with
the first half being our strongest but we put or heads down in the last
half in which saw Pelorous making the most and scoring from our mistakes.
Awesome work in the attack side with big thanks to Tania for filling in
for us; however our team still needs to work on consistency through court
and holding on to the ball and not throwing it away. Not to worry girls
we'll get them next time! Sharry.
MVP: No MVP this week
EAST
8
vs Victoria University 4
W 44 - 18
The old girls have done it again and are now outright leaders. Thought
we would be in for a hard game as both sides were undefeated - started
off being tough but we managed to limit them to 3 goals in the second
half - brilliant defense right through the court and our shooters kept
slotting them through the goal. Fantastic result!!
MVP
- Mary Burgess for her outstanding 'keeping'!!
EAST
9
vs NZIS
L 32 - 37
We held it together in the first half but a lack of fitness and discipline
got the better of us in the second half with poor passing and a lack of
driving we struggled to get the ball into our offensive third.
Welcome to our coach Alison this week though - I'm sure she'll get us
up to it by the next time we face this team.
EAST 10
vs Victoria University 6
Won 22-29
EAST 11
vs Victoria University 5
W 37 - 32
We played well as a team and it definitely showed in Saturday's game.
Vic Uni had a strong attacking line-up which played well but we forced
turnovers with awesome Defence and came away with a very good win against
a good team!
MVP - Courtney - (dominated the opposition WA with tips and intercepts
resulting in turnovers
vs Kia Ora 8
W 37 - 12
EAST 15
vs Kia Ora 9
W 25 - 19
East 15 played their best game so far in the session on sat. They really
worked the spaces on the court and driving for the ball. Down by one point
in the first quarter, East 15 stepped up and played their game and from
the second quarter onwards they lead the game. The shooters really positioned
themselves well and got most of their shots in, mid court was well controlled
by the girls by slowing down and finding a player to pass to, defense
never gave up by keeping themselves in front of their players. Overall
a win for East 15, YAY!!!! by six points, I am very proud of the girls
for not giving up and staying positive. This was a farewell game for Anthea
who is going overseas next week, all the best Anthea and thanks for reserving
for us!!!! East 15 are more the capable as a team to play well as shown
today, Keep up the good work girls and lets have another win next week!!
Update - 29th May 2007 - Update
Hi
all,
Is it winter yet? All this Saturday sun is unbelievable. I love turning
up to netball this time of the year wearing a T shirt! I hope you all
noticed the fabulous T shirts both Tarnz and I were wearing. They are
our new club training T's. After Queen's birthday weekend Kelly Newbold,
East's uniform coordinator, will be coming around to each team to see
if you'd like to purchase one. She will have all the costs and a sample
for you to see. Thanks for organising them Tarnz they look great!
Now onto fees! We are coming down hard on fees this year because for the
past few years there have been too many outstanding payments which are
costing the club. When you joined WENC to play netball you became a member
of our club which means you pay fees. All clubs are the same (Please refer
to the club constitution on the website for clarification on being a member).
The reason we have fees is because the club get's charged by the Wellington
association to be a member and play at the courts. If you do not pay your
fees we still get charged. It has always been a policy at East that if
you do not pay your fees by a set date you do not take the court. This
year we will be following this through. You can pay your fees into our
bank account which you'll find on the website. Or you can give them to
our new treasurer Claire Mackrell. Remember if you still aren't
sure who we are, or who to contact, check us out on our website http://eastnetball.wellington.net.nz/contacts.htm
Congratulations Claire on being appointed as East's new treasurer. Claire
is new to East this year and plays for East 15. She has kindly offered
her time to this voluntary role which the committee and I really appreciate.
What a find for us!!
To everyone who has paid a big thank you from the committee. If you haven't
received you Blend bar VIP card please let us know via email or find Tania,
Kelly Newbold or I at the courts. Remember you can head down to the blend
bar any night of the week and use your card. Better still why not meet
up after your game. Nothing like a drink and pizza after a hard game!
Our next club night at the blend bar will be on Saturday 16th June. The
theme is BINGO!!! That's right legs 11 start gathering your lucky charms
and wait to hear from Kelly Douglas, East's social events coordinator,
for details. It'll be an hilarious evening I'm sure.
Finally, I've been thinking hard and long about what I would share with
you this week. I have passed on a little bit of fitness wisdom and was
going to led onto nutrition a passionate interest of mine. Then
I found this very cool website which will do everything for you. Check
it out www.netballsmart.co.nz . It's your own personalised training solution
and New Zealand's first fully tailored free online training solution.
My work has been done for me. I hope you find this useful!
Enjoy your Netball free Saturday this weekend and spare a thought for
the Queen. If you're going away keep safe.
See you next week hopefully without my crutches.
Cheers,
Sam
EAST RED
vs
East Blue
W 59 - 25
East
Red played our East Blue team this weekend and came away with a good 59-25
win. Our defensive team played an extremely good game and were able to
restrict the ball in and around the East Blue goal circle and therefore
turned over a good amount of ball for us, unfortunately we weren't always
able to capitalise on it. The win keeps us joint top of the table with
PIC Green and leaves us in a good position with our Shakers players are
set to rejoin the team
MVP
- Bronwyn
EAST BLUE
vs East Red
L 25 - 59
East
Blue lost to East Red 59:25. Inter-club clashes are always tough encounters
and this was certainly the case for the Blues. It was a mixed performance
by the Blues - we started strongly and had two close quarters in the game,
but the Reds were always in control. Our shooters worked hard against
the strongest defensive unit in Prem. 1. Through court we made too many
mistakes under pressure and the Reds quickly converted these into points.
Circle Defence worked hard to stem the flow and at times exerted good
pressure on the Reds' shooting circle.
MVP
- Erana - absorbed the pressure and had a strong game. High work rate
and always there in support play for the team
EAST 3
vs Karori 1
W 28 - 25
I think the Shakers must have watched East 3 for inspiration as like the
Shakers there was 3 good quarters of netball and one very bad one! Naomi,
Jo and Mel combined well at the defence end of the court to force turnovers
for East in the first half but the wheels feel off somewhat in the 3rd
quarter and East squandered a 10 goal lead in the 3rd quarter and held
onto win by only 3 goals! Rebekah Meinders had a strong game when she
came on at WD, and snaffled some timely intercepts to help East maintain
their lead in the dying stages.
MVP
- Rebekah Meinders
EAST
4
vs Vic Uni 2
W 20 - 9
A
much stronger game from our team - particularly the first half. It was
great to see the confidence developing between players to release the
ball into space and to back up on intercepts. The defence played a strong
game - keeping the opposition to just 3 goals for the first half of the
game.
MVP: Hayley Campbell & Lara Jackson - strong defence in the circle
- lots of pressure on shots and great rebounding
EAST
5
vs Marsden Coll 1
L 14 - 31
EAST 6
vs Pelorous
W 33 - 24
Great
game this week even though we were desperately short of players. We managed
to find a couple of people at the courts to play for us so a huge thank
you to Laura and Jo who really saved us. Everyone played really well and
the ball moved through court brilliantly!!!
MVP:
Laura from East 7(thanks a million for playing for us!)
EAST 7
vs SCOG 3
W 47 - 10
First
win of the season for East 7 with a high scoring 47 against SCOG. However
the worst performance on court the team has given the whole season by
throwing everything they have been working on the last few games out the
window. Terrible first three quarters, but picked up in the last quarter
once a goal of 50 goals was set. Notable mentions to Kate who shot 40
goals and Nikki who was again solid in WD.
MVP: No MVP awarded
EAST
8
You may know that East 8 is full of "aging" women. Dylan Thomas
(1914-1953) wrote a challenging poem about aging - the first verse reminds
me of our team: Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should
burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
EAST 9
vs Kia Ora 3
W 36 - 29
We
played Kia Ora 3 this week - we lost against them by 2 in grading so definatley
wanted another go at them! It was a really fast game and we needed to
slow it down at times as we had a few wayward passes. We were just up
2 at the end of the third quarter and gave it everything we could in the
last quarter to ensure we took it. Final score was 36 - 29. Thanks to
Sala - GA from East 11 for playing for us - you were a great WD!
MVP:
Jaimie Herbison - great moving around the circle and helping bring teh
ball down the court
EAST
10
Vs Poneke 1
L 33 - 37
Very
disappointed with the game, considering the opposition had 5 players in
the 1st quarter then 6 for the rest of the game. Lost alot of ball in
the attack circle with the type of passes given, not using the circle
edge to our advantage with the opposition not having a WD and shooters
not being able to get free more than they should have.
MVP
- Lasi Afoa - Great defense Lasi throughout the game
EAST 11
Vs Karori 3
L 19 - 38
Due
to having none of our Defenders available to play we had to mix alot of
the positions and combinations meaning we had attacking players in the
defensive circle. Although we played well and played with alot of heart
we were behind the 8 ball the entire game due to our Attacking end suffering,
as a result of some attacking players in D! The opposition had an easy
game until the final quarter where we were able to match everything they
threw at us. Netball is a game of 4 quarters though, 1 great quarter will
rarely be enough to win the game!
MVP - Isabella Ioapo (Played GD, C and GA and played well in all 3)
EAST
comments out on court! Our defence was very strong and picked up many
tips through the court!
Update - 23rd May 2007 - Update
Hi
all,
As some of you may know I found myself in the injury bin this weekend.
Not a pleasant place to be especially now I've ended up in a thigh to
ankle knee brace attractive. I can tell you I want it off
like yesterday. I want to be able to do everyday things like chase my
kids when they take off with my lip stick, shower without been helped
in and laughed at by my empathic husband and drive a car to get the chocolate
I desperately need to scoff. It is very tempting to walk on my bad knee
and forget about R.I.C.E. At this stage I'm internally saying stuff longevity
of the knee lets strap it up and play next week. Of course the 'responsible'
me will not be setting such a bad example, instead I will be following
the advice of my physio. Here's some tips for anyone else who may find
themselves resentful of injury. AND please follow all advise given to
you by the first aid team and/or doctors.
Immediate Treatment for Sports Injuries
Stop
further injury or damage by stopping the activity immediately. Find out
what is wrong and treat it.
The
first treatment for most acute soft tissue injuries (bruises, strains,
springs, tears) is to prevent, stop and reduce swelling. When soft tissue
is damaged it swells or possibly bleeds internally. This swelling causes
pain and loss of motion, which limits use of the muscles.
The
primary treatment for soft tissue injuries is R.I.C.E. - rest, ice, compression
and elevation. Rest means to stop activity and give the tissues time to
heal. Compression of an acute injury is perhaps the next most important
immediate treatment tip. By quickly wrapping the injured body part with
an elastic bandage or wrap you help keep swelling to a minimum. The next
step is to apply ice to the injured area (over the wrap) to stop or reduce
the swelling. Never apply heat to an acute injury. Heat will increase
circulation and increases swelling.
Remember to have your injury looked at by a doctor and definitely see
a physio if advised by the doctor. ACC will cover your sports injury.
If however it ends up costing you a little bit remember it's nothing compared
to the price of not fixing the problem and sustaining a worse injury down
the track.
On
to the Quiz night now and what a night it was! Thank you EVERYONE who
came and supported our first club night of 2007. Our aim was to have a
lot of fun and raise money to pay our coaches, and we definitely managed
to do both. It was hilarious. There was some serious strategic decision's
made on forming some of the teams and a lot of alcohol induced brain activity.
For a while there we thought we'd have a draw and play off on our hands
but in the end 'Tania's Ring In's' won 1st place and a 100 hundred bar
tab; East Blue's team (Tania can't remember their name!) came 2nd, and
East 7 came 3rd . Thanks Blend bar for such a brilliant prize. Thanks
also goes out to Canterbury NZ for supplying all the spot prizes.
If
you missed the quiz night, you'll have to make up for it at our next club
night. Watch this space for the time and date.
Congratulations
to East 1 & East 8 for being placed first in your grades! The senior
teams have now been regraded, but unfortunately your stats are still not
up on the web.
Good luck for Saturday everyone, especially East 4! Take care out there
strap up properly if you are coming back form injury and play fair
to prevent injury.
Cheers,
Sam
EAST
RED
vs Onslow
Won 67 -30
East
Red had another great win over the weekend, this time beating Onslow 67-30.
It was another good performance by the team, with the defence end picking
up a number of great turnovers, our mid-courters brought the ball down
the court well and provided some nice ball into the circle and the shooters
slotted the goals, with some excellent shooting by Sarah. This result
ensures we hold onto top position in the grade and is good preparation
for our next game vs East Blue.
MVP
- Stacey McFeeters
EAST BLUE
vs SMOG 1
Lost 34 - 82
East
Blue's massive loss of 82:34 to SMOG 1 on Saturday in no way reflects
our game. At the end of Q3 we were down by 22, which, while a greater
margin than we'd set as our goal for the game, was still acceptable as
we had player illness in our team. Until the end of Q3, East Blue were
competitive in all areas of the court and we can take many positives from
the game. We continue to find areas to work on, but we expect this as
we are are constantly tested by the calibre of these Prem 1 teams and
the pressure they are able to exert on us over 60 minutes.
Unfortunately Q4, we went down 30:5. I'm sure the injury timer's never
been used as much in a game...Emma had to come off after a great game,
Jo had 2 breaks for cramp before she had to come off, Hayley - ball in
the face and bleeding nose but battled on and Shelley, really sick but
put herself back on court to help the team.
MVP - Kirsten - displaying utter determination and "die-hard attitude"
under very difficult circumstances.
EAST
3
vs Vic Uni
Won 27 - 19
This
was definitely a game of 2 halves! We struggled to get the ball through
court and convert the goals in the first half and were 2 goals down at
half time. But 2nd half East woke up, the defence put pressure on Vic
Uni, Jo got some great intercepts and the shooters found their movement
and converted some great goals which saw a 10 goal turnaround and a victory
to East 27-19.
MVP - Maria Mitineti
EAST
4
vs SMOG 4
Lost 20 - 22
East
4 went down in a narrow defeat 22-20 to SMOG 4, after losing a player
injured in the first play of the ball. Definitely not the start we would
have wanted, but we fought hard and generally performed well through the
court. Probably our strongest game defensively so far this season and
we forced lots of turnover ball through the court.
MVP:
Temma Price.
Best
game of the season so far. There were moments of magic as we got off to
a flying 1st quarter with some smooth play through out the court and managed
to put a lot of last weeks training into practice. We went off the boil
during the 2nd and 3rd quarter but worked hard to end on a very strong
last quarter. The defense was outstanding with M.J and Nicki all over
the shooters with some excellent rebounds and intercepts. We managed to
create more space in the mid court than in recent games and get the ball
into the shooters with more ease, fantastic feeding from Alexis and Amanda.
MVP:
Marijke Preston for her outstanding Defence in the circle, and Amanda
MacLeod for her blazing game in WA. Best I've seen them play in years.
EAST
vs Onslow 4
Won 46 - 15
Well,
what a gorgeous day. Although it was pretty hot while we were playing.
Well as you can tell by the score the game was fairly one sided. We were
happy to have Robbie back in centre and both Elaine and Kim had some lovely
moves in the shooting circle and made it easy for the team to pass the
ball in. Our defence as usual were awesome
MVP-
Mary Haggie & Mary Burgess for all those intercepts / tips
EAST
9
vs East 11
Won 24 - 19
We
had a tough game against our own East 11 this week. With three of our
players away we had to call in the reserves. They did a great job and
our flow down the court still worked really well with new players and
a reshuffle of the rest of the team. It was a fast game and close the
whole way through but me managed to pull away for the win. Thanks to Katie,
Jaimee and Mum for playing for us!
MVP:
Laura Travis-Jones for some great intercepts and lots of tips on D.
EAST
Lost 19 - 24
Although
the sun was out and the sky was clear, the court was damp and the ball
very slippery which resulted in a pretty messy game (ct 2). Both teams
done well despite the court conditions and East 9 definitely deserved
the victory
MVP
Hopefully
this is the first and last time we will see a score like this for the
remainder of the season from E12. The team is still trying to gel with
new positions and new girls joining the team each week. There were fleeting
moments of great team work on court, particularly in the last few minutes
of the game. Smog were a strong team who played well and put a lot of
pressure on our team causing frequent ball turnover down the court.
MVP
- Jo Milne, great looking for intercepts when on defence
Great
team work in using their attack and defense skills. Getting free for the
next pass. Shooting was spot on again, using the footwork rule to their
advantage by moving away from the defender and awesome teamwork attacking
circle edge strongly and feeders positioning themselves for a straight
feed into the circle. One on one defending - marking in front of the receiver.
Working as a unit, forcing the opposition to pass diagonals. Great body
angles, vision. Plenty of intercepts in the defense goal third.
MVP
EAST
East
15 played St Francis and the girls played a good game. At the end of the
2nd quarter, we were down only by one point as the girls really took back
the game for themselves. The team really worked hard to controll the speed
of the game after losing a some passes when the ball was in our half of
the court. Unfortunately St Francis shooters were on form after the scare
in the 2nd quarter and I was proud that the girls did not lose focus of
playing their game and continued to put their all into the game. Keep
up the good work team :)
Club Captains report
Hi
everyone,
Well what a mixed bag of results and games we had on Saturday. There were
draws, losses and wins! However there seemed to be a consistent message
in the reports regardless of the result passing was off and at
times there was a lack of team concentration. I know for East 4, (the
team I'm a member of), passing was definitely a huge part of our loss
- to which I feel partly responsible for. And it came down to my fitness
(or lack of). I know I'm not the only one out there feeling this, and
comments back from coaches are reflecting this as well. I advise everyone
to do something extra during the week and work on your fitness. This will
not only allow you to run around the court for 40 minutes (an hour in
P1's case) but also keep you focused on the game. When you get tired you
don't concentrate, passes go astray and game plans go out the window.
I do know that sometimes there just don't seem to be enough hours in the
week. Training with your team and playing on a Saturday is a stretch.
I'm a stay at home Mum of 2, part time student and East's club captain
- so trust me I know about busy. Especially when both the kids are sick,
up all night and hubbie is away. Still, I know there were ways I could
have helped myself last week. Did you know it only takes a short time
for you to lose the fitness you've worked so hard to obtain. So Mum or
not, here are some tips I gave my clients during my ex-Personal Trainer
days. They may help you on weeks you think you just can't manage training
3x a week (yes that is the minimum ladies, for any exercise to be effective
for your fitness):
Wake
up 30 minutes earlier and get ready for work. Park 30 minutes away from
your work when you get there and walk!!! Mum's, walk to the grocery shop
/ park / a play group or friends place. It's so environmentally friendly
too!
Do you have a skipping rope? We have plenty in the club. What's 10 minutes
in the morning before breakfast a few mornings a week? Or at night when
the kids are in bed Mum's? It's intense, and is an all over body exercise.
Strength exercise will keep you VERY fit. If you've ever done weight training
you'll know your heart rate will increase. So use your own body as resistance
do 3x sets of 20 for each of these; press ups, triceps dips, squats,
lunges, leg lifts and sit ups while watching TV.
It's all about being self motivated and creative!
Saturday
was a crazy running around day so unfortunately I was unable to watch
many games. However I'd like to congratulate Kristy Palmer on being selected
as East 14's MVP. Kristy has come back to play this season after having
a baby between seasons, and only 4 games into it she managed to play a
full and outstanding game at centre!!! Her adorable baby girl is only
4 months old and Kristy's out there proving to all you can do it
baby and all. Well done Krist!
See you all out there this week ready to play hard and with (I quote from
Aidene Wilson here) GRIT!! Perhaps more 'grit' will help them to bet Australia
in the tri series, hope it works for you along with your GREAT
passing and concentration!
Good luck everyone and see you at QUIZ NIGHT after the games.
Cheers,
Sam
* Team reports
Over the last few reports I have been congratulating teams who are currently
top of their grade. I have been duly told that over these last few weeks
I have completely missed East 11 of this list. So many apologies to East
11 who are sharing top spot!!!! And congrats to the following teams who
are currently top of their table ~ East Red, East 5, East 8 and East 11
EAST RED
Draw
49-49
It was a top of the table clash in premier 1 with East Red taking on PIC
Green. We had a good lead after the first quarter, but as each quarter
progressed PIC managed to close our early advantage to square up the game
49-49 at full time. We had another great defensive performance with Rosie
Mahoney picking up a number of intercepts, some tight marking in the PIC
goal circle and some good attacking moves and finishing off down in our
own shooting circle. Unfortunately we were unable to pick up maximum points,
but the two points from the draw is definitely better than no points!
MVP - Rosie Mahoney
We almost had the game, but lost it in the dying stages to go down by
2 goals to SCOG1. East took some time to get going and had to fight back
from 4 goals down. Mel Winter was the star picking up some stunning intercepts
from GD and creating much needed turnover ball for East. Jess Jamieson
and Naomi Hamilton were also strong driving the ball well through the
mid court.
MVP - Mel Winter
35-18 to East College
We had a strong first quarter where the team played like a dream - everyone
on court was thinking, looking after the ball, and playing strategically.
But once the 2nd quarter was underway the number of unforced errors that
our team conceded just kept growing. We gave away so much turnover ball
- especially with our poor passing. A really frustrating game to watch
- the lack of discipline really cost us in the end! East College were
a strong team and they played well!
Another tough game on Saturday. A vast improvement this weekend against
an experienced Onslow team with very accurate shooters. It was good to
see the things we worked on in training during the week transferring into
our game on Saturday. The ball was flowing more smoothly down the court
and there was certainly a lot more space to work with in the mid-court.
Our shooters put in a great effort and seemed to be more conscious of
each other's play than in previous games. The defence put in a solid attempt
in the circle against strong shooters who could score from anywhere. Overall
this was a hard loss, but it was tempered by the fact that our game play
was much better and we saw some moments of brilliance that I am sure we
will see more of as the season continues.
MVP: Alexis Starkey. Came in cold to the team but blended nicely with
all players and stepped up and provided strong play in all area's of the
court.
EAST
8
Won
38-9.
Hard to believe that we actually won and won convincingly as it felt like
a real effort. There were a few things against us this week, no Robbie,
the flu, sore shoulders and sprained ankles but they didn't stop us from
giving it our best. However it was mentioned that we looked like a bunch
of front row props bringing the ball down the court but our control and
lack of speed was in our favour this week as we played our own game and
didn't fall into the trap of getting caught behind the opposition. If
it wasn't for Fobbie and Jo holding the two ends of the court together
it could have been a different story. A great win - imagine what we could
do if we were all fit and well!!
MVP-
Have to be Jo Waugh for always being there for the wayward passes!!
EAST 9
Lost
39-41
We had a battle against Kia Ora 3 this week. We seemed to have no focus
in the first quarter and we were playing Kia Ora's game instead of our
own, ending the quarter down five. We managed to pick it up in the remaining
quarters narrowing the gap so we were up and down by 1 all through the
last quarter only to lose by 2 in the end. Great reffing from East Red
too - cheers.
MVP: Katie Henderson as she managed to get some great intercepts straight
off the oppositions centre passes and shut her partner down.
Update - 9th May 2007
Hi
all~
Congratulations to all our coaches and club members who are involved in
the Wellington Netball Centre Rep Teams for the 2007 season.
The club appreciates the time all coaches put into the development of
netball among players of all ages both inside and outside the club. Wellington
East has a strong tradition of being involved in Rep teams over the years
and this season is no exception! Our Prem 1 East Red coach Lisa Bogiwalu
is co-coaching the U19's, Moana Solia (Premier 2, East 3) the U15's and
Alison Lavin (East 9) managing the Shakers Development team.
If you are interested in seeing who made rep teams they are available
on the Wellington Netball Centre website http://www.netballwellingtonregion.org.nz
But wait there's more - Ladies watch out - the next generation of the
Solia playing dynasty is on the way!! Not only is Moana's sister Francis
captaining the Shakers, but Moana's daughter Tilomai Solia was selected
in the U17 Gold team, and her niece Moana was selected for the U15 Gold
team.
Congratulations from the club Moana!
